Harmful gambling often starts as entertainment and later takes more time, money, and emotional energy than intended.
Behavioural signs
- Spending more time or money than planned, or chasing losses.
- Hiding spending or lying to family.
- Neglecting work, study, or sleep because of gambling.
Emotional signs
- Irritability when someone raises the topic or when you try to cut down.
- Anxiety or low mood linked to bets or debts.
- Using gambling to escape stress or painful feelings.

Your GP can discuss next steps. GamCare offers trained advisers. Gamblers Anonymous offers peer meetings in many areas.
