The nine-question self-check

Two minutes. No email address, no account, no result anyone else will ever see. This runs entirely inside your browser — not one of your answers is sent to us.

The nine-question self-check

Thinking about the last twelve months, answer as honestly as you would if nobody were going to see it — because nobody will. Nothing you tap here leaves your device.

How the scoring works

Every answer scores between 0 and 3, giving a total between 0 and 27. These are the four recognised bands — we are showing them openly because a self-check that hides its own method is not worth taking.

    No indication of gambling harm

Your answers do not indicate harm from gambling at the moment. That can change, and it usually changes gradually rather than suddenly — so if you have come to this page at all, it may be worth revisiting the resource library and setting your limits while the decision is easy.

  • 1–2

    Low level of risk

Your answers suggest gambling is not currently causing you significant harm, but there are signals worth taking seriously. This is the stage at which barriers are easiest to put up and hardest to regret — a self-exclusion registration now costs you nothing you will miss.

  • 3–7

    Moderate level of risk

Your answers indicate a moderate level of risk, with consequences that are probably already visible in your finances, your relationships or your sleep. This is the point at which people most often decide to wait and see. Waiting is the expensive option. A free, confidential conversation is available to you today.

  • 8–27

    Signs consistent with problem gambling

Your answers are consistent with gambling that is causing you significant harm. That is a difficult sentence to read, and it is also the most useful information on this page. Please do not sit with it alone — the National Gambling Helpline is free, confidential and answering right now on 0808 8020 133.
